What is naturopathic medicine?

Naturopathic medicine focuses on preventative medicine and takes into account the whole being - the physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual self. It looks into getting at the root cause of the issue instead of putting a bandaid on the issue. It encourages the body to do what it already knows how to do…heal, and to encourage this process in the least invasive and most effective means. Naturopathic medicine combines the wisdom of nature with modern science and evidence based medicine.

Does my insurance cover naturopathic medicine?

The short answer is maybe. Many private insurances cover naturopathic care in Maine, while most all cover it in Vermont. Vermont Medicaid does cover naturopathic care, while MaineCare (Maine Medicaid) does not, unfortunately. Dr. Morrell is not credentialed with any insurance companies, but is happy to provide a superbill (codes for the insurance company) upon request for you to submit to your insurance company. This is because Dr. Morrell wants to work for you (!!!) and not insurance companies.

Can I use my HSA or FSA to pay for visits and supplements?

Yes, most definitely! If your insurance plan includes an HSA or FSA, you can use these pre-tax dollars for visits and supplements.

Can Dr. Morrell be my PCP (primary care provider)?

Unfortunately, no. She is considered a naturopathic specialist. This works great for folks who have a primary care provider already and want to compliment their healthcare with a naturopathic view.

What’s the relationship between Sage and the Integrative Health Center of Maine?

Sage Integrative Health’s office is located at the Integrative Health Center of Maine. They are separate businesses, but are constantly collaborating for the benefits of all of our patients.
